What is 'Music Moose' or 'Music & More'?

Music Moose & Music & More are fun, interactive music education programs designed to give those with special needs a well-rounded and unforgettable introduction to the beautiful world of music.  These programs are complementary to music therapy as music is utilized to stimulate not only developmental skills, but musical skills, knowledge, enjoyment and enrichment that inspires each and every student to fall in love with music.  Through fun and engaging musical experiences, those with special needs are better able express themselves through learning the wonderful language of music!

The Belle Chanson Studio of Music supports that all students are unique, each having their own individual interests and fortes, which is why we actively learn about music using three basic methods of communication--we see, we hear, we do.  It makes sense, because music is all three--it is visual, auditory and kinesthetic.  Class activities may also be amended or adapted to best suit the needs of the group:

Serving the Whole Student

To best serve each student as a whole, Music Moose and Music & More Classes support not just the development of each student through music, but the education, enrichment and enjoyment that music provides to truly and effectively benefit the consumer as a whole person.  At the heart of these programs is serving the whole student with the beauty of music--from development and education to enrichment, creativity, enjoyment and ultimately, the genuine expression of each student's authentic self through actively learning and expressing the language of music!


Educational Because at the very heart of Music Moose/Music & More is the whole student, classes bring not only the world of music, but the building blocks thereof to those with special needs in a way that is fun, enriching, student-centered and easily understood.  Each and every interactive class is centered on a music concept that students learn about and actively express through different visual, auditory and kinesthetic musical activities that are fun.  One day we may be playing 'whole note bowling' and instruments--the next class we may be playing 'crescendo musical eggs' or playing a fun easy memory game with the flute to learn its parts and how it works--there is always something innovative and engaging for consumers in Music Moose or Music & More Classes.  These activities not only inherently support the development of fine/gross motor skills, coordination, language skills, memory, self-expression, the promotion of mental/emotional health and confidence, but facilitate the actual learning and application of such concepts as note/rest values, dynamic and tempo markings, instrument groups, individual instruments, composers, classical music, music genres and much more.  It is the belief of Belle Chanson Studio of Music that each student with special needs is not only capable of musical enjoyment, but of musical growth and learning as well; which is why Music Moose and Music & More Classes go a step beyond to serve the whole student--from his or her development and education to enrichment, expression, creativity and enjoyment through fun and positive student-centered musical opportunities to help each consumer better express him or herself through the beauty and power of music.

Well-Rounded


Another attribute that sets Music Moose and Music & More Classes apart from other programs is that they provide students with exposure to lots of different instruments as opposed to only one single instrument.  The Belle Chanson Studio of Music is proud to support the free exploration of many instruments, as providing this kind of "instrumental variety" for each student fosters a well-rounded understanding of how music is made from a variety of different sources, and helps broaden each student's horizons and express themselves with a variety of different instruments.

Adaptable

Because each group of consumers is comprised of individuals with their own unique needs and preferences, Belle Chanson provides an option to 'adapt' Music Moose Classes and Music & More Classes to best accommodate each group.  Class activities can be adapted to best suit the level of functioning, attention span, ability/disability, activity preferences, etc. of consumers to help make Music Moose or Music & More not only the most fun, but the most failure-free and engaging it can be for everyone in class!

Examples of how Music Moose Classes have been adapted in the past include: singing songs familiar to the group (instead of songs prepared for class), substituting a different activity for the puppet show, utilizing and repeating the use of 'favorite instruments', replacing any movement activities with failure-free alternatives for physically handicapped consumers, designing more visual activities for students with autism, etc.
